Walmart Concord Commuter e-bike thoughts? - Bike Forums (2025)

I'll get a picture of the battery and the model and hopefully post tonight. It looks similar to batteries in shape to those on bikes at a local bike shop (costing thousands). So at least that hints that maybe it is something of a standard size. It would be awesome if it could be replaced in the future, that would help.

But let me say a few things regarding this Concord Commuter bike.

First: I'm not a professional biker by any means. I'm just looking for backup transportation, and to get out for some occasional fun, go to the park and ride around, that stuff. And hopefully, a backup vehicle to get to the hardware store, run errands, and maybe get to work in a pinch if say my car is in the shop.

There is no hobby in existence where you shouldn't spend a whole lot more. But my budget is super tight. I need new garage roof, trees taken out that are a hazard, a new back fence, and on. I've got lots of fires to put out with my money first. So for me its either an affordable e-bike or I'm not in the game at all.

Second: To pinch that money even further, I'm looking at doubling down, getting TWO e-bikes. And this is why:

What got me into e-bikes to begin with was I needed a folding bike. Something I could put in the back of my car in case it breaks down, I have to drop it off at the mechanic and get home, whatever. That I got, and really need because I have no rides, no help and no backup transportation at all.

But the problem is I had so much fun with the emergency bike :/ ..... I decided well why not just replace my regular 10 speed style manual bike with a ebike also. That's because the folding bike is great for insurance, but its not really meant for riding all over town on, or going out on outings right. Its just not comfortable for that. I'm 6 ft 3, and I need a full size bike.

I really can't find any one e-bike that can do both, so I opted for two affordable e-bikes. And the Wal-Mart Concord Commuter is surprisingly, very solidly built and is just pleasant to ride. And, I can afford it. Thats a biggie to be sure lol.

Here's another maddening catch: WalMart also has a Huffy brand, called the Huffy 27.5" Cadence. Its just $50 more, and unlike the Commuter which has a 20 mile range, the Cadence has a 40 mile range. No-brainer, right?

Apparently.... wrong.

I was just out at the store for quite awhile comparing the two. Despite only having the 20 mile range, the Concord Commuter is just more solidly built all around. The bars are thicker, the bike is more substantial and just feels better riding. I even like the gear shifting and handlebar position much better. The Cadence, by comparison, feels cheap and wobbly. Its just hard to describe, and it really sucks.... because I would pay $50 more for twice the range. But to me there's no comparison between the Cadence and the Concord Commuter. The Concord is just a better made bike, imo. Opinions may vary, and I wish mine did! I guess I'd rather have the solid bike with the good feel, and 20 mile range, over 40 miles of range on a thin cheap feeling bike. Just my opinion.

The type of bike locks I use are the U shaped solid steel.
