Key Features of Romero Britto’s Pop Art Style

Our easy cat drawing pop art project, inspired by Romero Britto’s “Cat“ and “Midnight Cat”, focuses on 4 key characteristics of his work: cubism, pop art, and his use of vivid colors and patterns to convey joy and happiness.

  1. Cubism: Britto’s art is a perfect example of how crisp lines and geometric shapes can be used to create a sense of energy and movement in a piece of work.
  2. Pop Art: He enhances his subjects with a whimsical touch through cartoonish visuals, giving them more energy and liveliness.
  3. Vivid Colors: Romero Britto’s color choices are bright, bold, and full of joy; using many different colors, often in strong combinations. His colors are flat (no shading), usually putting similar colors next to each other, and he uses bold lines to outline shapes.
  4. Patterns: Romero Britto’s paintings feature bold and eye-catching arrangements of simple geometric shapes such as squares, triangles, circles, and diamonds. Checkerboards, hearts, and flowers are also recurring motifs within his work, adding warmth and familiarity to his use of common images.
