A radio icon is signing off! After an incredible 40-year career, Kitty Kinnin, the midday host on Curtis Media's Variety Hits "96.1 BBB" (WBBB) in Raleigh, is retiring today. Her voice has been a familiar friend to listeners for decades, and her departure marks the end of an era.
Kitty's journey in broadcasting began way back in college. She hails from Miami and started her career while in Gainesville. Her first big break landed her a job at WKZL in Greensboro. But her connection with Raleigh started in 1985, where she spent 13 years hosting middays at Rock 106.1 WRDU.
Over the years, Kitty graced the airwaves of several stations in the Raleigh market, including 93.9 WZZU, 107.1 WFXC, and 90.7 WNCU. She even hosted mornings at Classic Hits "100.7 The River" WRVA-FM. Beyond Raleigh, Kitty also spent time in Wilmington, NC, where she worked at WWAY-TV and AAA "The Penguin" WUIN for four years. She also showcased her passion for music by hosting specialty Jazz and Blues shows at many of her stations.
WBBB shared a heartfelt message, saying, "Today we say farewell to a true Triangle radio legend, Kitty Kinnin, as she turns off the mic and heads into a well-earned retirement after 40 incredible years on the air. Kitty’s voice, warmth, and wit have been part of the soundtrack of this community for decades. She’s shared your workday, your drives, your laughs, and your stories, and she’s done it all with heart, soul, and a whole lot of style. From everyone at 96.1 BBB, thank you, Kitty, for the music, the memories, and the magic.”
