STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Middle school students throughout New York state are making plans for high schools in September.
U.S. News & World Report, which considers itself the global authority in education rankings, recently announced the 2024 Best New York High Schools. The rankings evaluate 1,279 high schools throughout the state, where Regents Exams are mandatory.
To calculate the rankings, U.S. News focuses on the following: college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, undeserved student performance, college curriculum, breadth, and the graduation rate.
Here are the top high schools in New York state, according to U.S. News & World Report’s ranking:
20. New Explorations Into Science, Tech and Math High School — Manhattan
According to U.S. News & World Report: students at New Explorations Into Science, Tech and Math High School, have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement (AP) coursework and exams. The AP participation rate at New Explorations Into Science, Tech and Math High School is 95%. The total minority enrollment is 63%, and 29% of students are economically disadvantaged.
19. Horace Greeley High School — Chappaqua
According to U.S. News & World Report: Horace Greeley High School is ranked 19th within New York. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams. The AP participation rate at Horace Greeley High School is 94%. The total minority enrollment is 28%. Horace Greeley High School is the only high school in the Chappaqua Central School District.
18. High School for Dual Language and Asian Studies — Manhattan
According to U.S. News & World Report: The curriculum at the High School for Dual Language and Asian Studies places a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, education. Additionally, the school strives to turn out students proficient in two languages: Chinese and English. The High School for Dual Language and Asian Studies offers Advanced Placement courses in biology, calculus, and Chinese language and culture, among others.
