Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases, THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM and TO STORM OFF

In this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase the calm before the storm. So, I've been talking a little bit about the weather lately, and it reminded me of this phrase. The calm before the storm is a phrase that we use when things are quite peaceful, but you know in the future, things might get worse. Here's a couple of examples for you. Right now in Ontario, Canada, the number of people with COVID-19 is very low. There aren't a lot of people that have COVID-19. Our graph is somewhat flat, but a lot of people believe this is the calm before the storm. And I think I might be in agreement with that. I feel like things sound really good right now, but I feel like right now, we are in a peaceful time. There's not a lot of people with COVID, but I feel like it's the calm before the storm. That means that I feel like it's probably gonna get worse. I'm a little bit cynical, maybe. Maybe I should be more hopeful. But my feeling right now is that it is the calm before the storm.

Sometimes we use this phrase to talk about a child. If a child is playing peacefully, like a little three or four year old child, a parent might say, oh, that's just the calm before the storm. Any minute now, he or she is going to get upset about something. So, when you say something is, when you describe a situation as the calm before the storm, it means that things are probably gonna get worse.

It actually wasn't windy when I came out here. It was very calm, and now it's starting to get windy, and my papers almost blew away. Anyways, the second phrase I wanted to help you learn today is the English phrase to storm off. I taught the phrase to storm out a while ago in another video. When someone is at something, like a party, and they get angry and they leave when they're angry, we would say that they storm out. You can also say that they storm off. So, anytime somebody gets really, really angry, and they just leave the situation they are in, you could say that they storm off, or you could say that they storm out. Either would work fine. I feel like there's an extra, extra helping of insects out here today, biting me. Sorry about that. I keep having mosquitos and flies land on me. But anyways, to review, the calm before the storm is a peaceful time that you experience before something gets worse. And if someone gets angry and they leave when they're angry, we say that they storm off.

Let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Liv Universe. Liv is a member of my channel. Thank you so much for being a member and supporting my channel. If any of you would like to support my channel, there is a Join button down below. Liv says, "Thanks. "Great video, I love it. "P.S. it's pouring rain while I'm watching the video." And then my response is, "That sounds awesome. "I love listening to the sound of rain coming down. "It is one of my favorite sounds." So thanks, Liv, for this comment. I was just imagining someone sitting and listening to rain coming down, and I think it's a peaceful thing. Normally, when you hear rain coming down, it's somewhat peaceful. And thank you for leaving a comment.

It's really fun to read the comments. I am able to respond to a few, and then it's really cool to be able to pick one of them for the next day. And just in case you were wondering, don't worry if you make any spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes if you leave a comment, because I actually fix the mistakes before I use the comment. So I'm not saying today's comment had a mistake in it, but if you're worried that you don't want to leave a comment because everyone will see the mistakes that you make in English, don't worry about it. I actually take the comments, I read over it, I fix any small mistakes before I use it in the next video. So, it actually is good for all of you who are watching, because I don't want to use a comment that has mistakes in it. I'd rather that you see the most correct version of that comment. And for the person leaving the comment, you can see the little corrections that I made the next day.

Anyways, Bob the Canadian here. Thanks for watching. Hope you're enjoying these little English lessons, and I'll see you with a brand new lesson in a couple of days.

In this English lesson, I wanted to help.

You learn the English phrase.

The calm before the storm.

So, I've been talking a little bit about the weather lately, and it reminded me of this phrase.

The calm before the storm is a phrase that we use when things are quite peaceful, but you know in the future, things might get worse.

Here's a couple of examples for you.

Right.

Now in Ontario, Canada, the number of people with COVID-19 is very low.

There aren't a lot of people that have COVID-19.

Our graph is somewhat flat, but a lot of people believe this is the calm before the storm.

And I think I might be in agreement with that.

I feel, like things sound, really good right, now, but I feel like right.

Now, we are in a peaceful, time.

There's, not a lot of people with COVID, but I feel like it's.

The calm before the storm.

That means that I feel like it's probably gonna get worse.

I'm a little bit cynical, maybe.

Maybe I should be more hopeful.

But.

My feeling right now is that it is the calm before the storm.

Sometimes.

We use this phrase to talk about a child.

If.

A child is playing peacefully, like a little three or four year old child, a parent might say, oh, that's just the calm before the storm.

Any minute now.

He or she is going to get upset about something.

So.

When you say something is.

When you describe a situation as the calm before the storm, it means that things are probably gonna get worse.

When I came out, here.

It was very calm, and now it's starting to get windy, and my papers almost blew away.

Anyways.

The second phrase I wanted to help you learn today is the English phrase to storm.

Off.

When, someone is at something, like a party, and they get angry and they leave.

When they're angry.

We would say that they storm out.

You can also say that they storm off.

So, anytime.

Someone gets really, really angry, and they just leave the situation.

They are in.

You could say that they storm off, or you could say that they storm out.

Either, would work.

Fine.

I feel like there's an extra, extra helping of insects out here.

Today, biting me.

Sorry about that.

I, keep having mosquitos and flies land on me.

But anyways, to review, the calm before the storm is a peaceful time that you experience before something gets worse.

And.

If someone gets angry and they leave when they're angry, we say that they storm off.

Let's.
