New Content
New Region Natlan | Natlan is accessible after completing the Archon Quest Prologue: Act III, “Song of the Dragon and Freedom” (available at Adventure Rank 18). Upon completion, a Waypoint west of Sumeru’s desert region automatically unlocks. You might have the Natlan Archon Quest indicator overshadowing this Teleport Waypoint, but it is still there. You do not have to complete any Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, or Fontaine quests to go to Natlan. |
New Combat and Exploration Mechanics Nightsoul | Nightsoul is a group of special mechanics limited to Natlan characters, bolstering their combat and exploration abilities. Natlan characters can enter the “Nightsoul’s Blessing” state mostly via their Elemental Skill. “Nightsoul Burst” can be triggered when there is a character from Natlan in your team. “Nightsoul Transmission” will be triggered when you switch to a Natlan character in the overworld within Natlan under certain circumstances. |
New Exploration Mechanic Saurian Indwelling | Saurians — the dragons of Natlan — can be found across the nation. There are six different types of Saurians corresponding to each tribe, and each has unique mechanics. Players can control the Saurians. |
New Artifact Sets • Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City • Obsidian Codex | Two new artifact sets obtained in Natlan from the Domain “Sanctum of Rainbow Spirit.” They are obtainable from Spiral Abyss Tier I and II Reliquaries. |
New Natlan Craftable Weapons • Flute of Ezpitzal (Sword) • Earth Shaker (Claymore) • Footprint of the Rainbow (Polearm) • Ring of Yaxche (Catalyst) • Chain Breaker (Bow) | Five new 4-star weapons that can be forged via recipes obtained in Natlan. |
New Event-Exclusive 4-Star Weapon Ash-Graven Drinking Horn (Catalyst) | A free 4-star Catalyst obtained from the “Traces of Artistry” event. It can be a viable substitute for already available craftable Catalysts, namely Prototype Amber and Ring of Yaxche. |
New Limited-Banner 5-Star Weapon Surf’s Up (Catalyst) | A new 5-star Catalyst that is Mualani’s signature weapon. Its CRIT DMG secondary stat allows it to be a 5-star stat stick option, but the passive is hard to make full use of for characters other than Mualani. |
New Limited-Banner 5-Star Weapon Fang of the Mountain King (Claymore) | A new 5-star Claymore that is Kinich’s signature weapon. It is considered a niche weapon for everyone else. |
Mualani | An Event Wish–limited 5-star Hydro Catalyst character. Mualani can enter the Nightsoul’s Blessing state via her Elemental Skill. |
Kinich | An Event Wish–limited 5-star Dendro Claymore character. Kinich can enter the Nightsoul’s Blessing state via his Elemental Skill. |
Kachina | A 4-star Geo Polearm character who is available to all players by progressing through the Archon Quest Chapter V: Act I, “Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn.” Kachina can enter the Nightsoul’s Blessing state via her Elemental Skill. |
New Artifact Strongboxes | Eight artifact sets were added to the Mystic Offering Artifact Strongboxes at the Crafting Bench, making it easier to farm certain artifact sets. The following sets were added: • Deepwood Memories • Gilded Dreams • Desert Pavilion Chronicle • Flower of Paradise Lost • Nymph’s Dream • Vourukasha’s Glow • Marechaussee Hunter • Golden Troupe. |
New Artifact Functions Artifact Extraction Artifact Definition Artifact Salvage | A newly introduced system that allows the conversion of leveled artifacts into Sanctifying Elixirs (Artifact Extraction), which are then used to craft an artifact with the set, piece, main stat, and two substats of your own choice (Artifact Definition). Elixirs can also be obtained through other sources. Artifact Salvage is a new function that allows players to conveniently convert Lv. 0 artifact pieces into Artifact Enhancement Materials (Sanctifying Unction and Sanctifying Essence). The EXP gained is equivalent to directly using these pieces as material while leveling up other artifacts, but the system saves progress towards the next Enhancement Material to prevent waste. |
New Reputation System in Natlan Tribe Reputation Tribal Chronicles | Each tribe has its own Reputation Level and Tribal Chronicles. Tribal Chronicles are quests that surround the Natlan tribes and its people, including playable characters. The weekly limit of 3 Bounties and 3 Supply Notices is shared between the tribes and with other regions’ weekly Bounties and Requests. |
New Maximum World Level 9 | Available to unlock at Adventure Rank 58. After the World Level increases, the level of enemies and the rewards dropped both increase. Notably, at World Level 9, Normal Bosses are guaranteed to drop at least 3 Character Level-Up Materials (up to 4). |
Weapon Wish System Update Epitomized Path | The maximum amount of Fate Points has been reduced from 2 to 1 in the Weapon Event Wish “Epitomized Path.” Now players are guaranteed to get the selected 5-star weapon after losing one! |
New Character Wish Mechanic Capturing Radiance | When losing the 50-50 on the Character Event Wish, there is a chance to trigger “Capturing Radiance,” turning the 5-star character you get into the featured character. The average probability of getting the featured character on Character Event Wish is now 55%. |
New Rewards for Completing Quests | Starting from Version 5.0, players will receive more rewards upon completing the Archon Quests, Story Quests, and Tribal Chronicles within the designated versions that they are released in. The extra rewards for the Archon Quests are 500 Primogems, whereas completing the Story Quests / Tribal Chronicles on time gives an additional 60 Primogems, as well as materials needed for the respective character’s level up to Ascension Phases 2 and 3. |
New Annual Anniversary Reward Free Standard 5-Star Character Invite | Starting from Version 5.0, a recurring event will be available every year during Genshin Impact’s anniversary to allow players to invite a standard 5-star character of their choice for free. This year’s selection pool contains Dehya, Keqing, Mona, Qiqi, Jean, Tighnari, and Diluc. |
Returning Event System Update Stellar Reunion Reunion Gift | The returning event “Stellar Reunion” has been reworked: • All domains that provide Talent or Weapon Level-Up Materials will allow players to freely choose the rewards from different days as they need. • The number of daily double-drop opportunities has been adjusted from 4 to 3. • New version highlight videos have been added, with rewards available after viewing: 40 Primogems. • Various quest objectives have been adjusted. If returning Travelers activate “Stellar Reunion,” a new “Reunion Gift” will also be activated, giving the players 10 Intertwined Fates. Conditions: If a Traveler logs into the game during the Version 4.8 “Stellar Reunion” maintenance period, both “Stellar Reunion” and “Reunion Gift” will be activated when logging into the game after the Version 5.0 update if they have met these conditions: |
Other Notable Quality of Life Updates | • A new “Quick Start” function has been introduced: players can gain access to the Natlan Archon Quests right away after reaching AR28 and completing the Archon Quest Chapter I: Act III, “A New Star Approaches.” This function is available until the Version 6.0 update. • A new Regional Specialty Tracking function that helps Travelers quickly locate the regional specialties and gather them more easily. • A Stamina system rework — Statue of the Seven levels in any nation will contribute to increasing your maximum Stamina (the cap of 240 remains the same). |
Nightsoul Mechanics Overview
Genshin Impact Version 5.0 introduces unique mechanics involving Nightsoul, which is intrinsic to characters hailing from Natlan. Various Nightsoul mechanics not only help Natlan characters traverse terrain more nimbly but also enhance their combat prowess. Certain equipment and enemies are also affected by the presence of Nightsoul mechanics.
Players are guaranteed Kachina as a Natlan character just by progressing through the 5.0 Archon Quest Chapter V: Act I, “Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn.”
Nightsoul’s Blessing
A state that Natlan characters can enter by using their Elemental Skill in most cases. Nightsoul’s Blessing can be used in or out of combat, and it consumes special types of Stamina called Nightsoul points and Phlogiston (discussed below) to enhance the character’s damage and exploration capability; Phlogiston is only available in the overworld.
Nightsoul’s Blessing and Nightsoul points are closely tied to Natlan characters’ combat power. For example, Kachina enters her Nightsoul’s Blessing state and uses Turbo Twirly to attack or to move swiftly across the terrain, consuming Nightsoul points over time; when the points run out, her Nightsoul’s Blessing state ends and Turbo Twirly disappears.
Kachina in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state with the Nightsoul point indication bar.
Notice the golden flame she emits off her body in this state.
Nightsoul’s Blessing can also be used to activate artifact set effects like those of Obsidian Codex and Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City.
Nightsoul-Aligned Damage
Certain attacks from Natlan characters have a special Nightsoul property. Nightsoul-aligned damage does not have any special effects in general; the only current exception is that they deal increased damage (by a 60% DMG Bonus) against the Wayob Manifestations in their Moment of Trial state. As of the time of writing, these are the only attacks in the game that have a Nightsoul alignment:
- Kachina’s Turbo Twirly (Elemental Skill)
- Mualani’s Sharky’s Bites (Elemental Skill)
- Mualani’s Super Shark Missile (Elemental Burst)
- Kinich’s Loop Shots (Elemental Skill)
- Kinich’s Scalespiker Cannon (Elemental Skill)
- Kinich’s Elemental Burst initial hit and Dragon Breath (Elemental Burst)
Nightsoul Burst
When your team has at least one Natlan character, teammates (including non-Natlan characters) can trigger Nightsoul Bursts by dealing Elemental damage to enemies. The more Natlan characters you have in the team, the more often Nightsoul Bursts can be triggered:
Number of Natlan Characters
1
2
3
Nightsould Burst Cooldown
18s
12s
9s
Nightsoul Bursts don’t deal any damage or apply an Element themselves. However, they are used to activate certain Natlan artifact set effects and character Talent effects; for example, Nightsoul Bursts increase Mualani’s Burst damage via her A4 Passive.
Nightsoul Burst
Nightsoul Transmission
In areas with Phlogiston mechanics (i.e., the Natlan region), when you switch to a Natlan character while in a certain movement mode (such as sprinting, climbing, or swimming), the character immediately enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing state and gains a set amount of Nightsoul points. This can only be activated every 10s and the cooldown is shared between teammates.
Nightsoul Transmission allows for more uptime in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, greatly enhancing Natlan characters’ fighting and exploration proficiency in the overworld.
Kachina’s icon glows when Traveler is sprinting, indicating that Nightsoul Transmission is available.
Phlogiston
Phlogiston, another exploration mechanic exclusive to the Natlan overworld, is not a part of the Nightsoul system but is still interconnected to it. Phlogiston appears as a special Stamina bar on your characters that can be used for numerous overworld mechanics, including powering your Saurians’ special abilities. Interacting with certain objects can give you Phlogiston points (for example, staying close to a teleport waypoint or Statue of the Seven).
The Phlogiston meter above your character’s HP bar.
One special aspect of Phlogiston is that characters can use it as a “fuel” to maintain their Nightsoul’s Blessing state after they have exhausted all their Nightsoul points. This means that as long as the Phlogiston points do not run out, a Natlan character can be in their Nightsoul’s Blessing state forever!
New Artifact Sets Overview
The new artifact sets are found in the Domain of Blessing called Sanctum of Rainbow Spirits, located near the “People of the Springs” tribe in Natlan.
Natlan’s two new artifact sets are most impactful to characters from Natlan, or characters played in teams with a Natlan teammate.
DISCLAIMER: The following suggestions are based on early analysis. Please wait for further calculations and testing before investing a significant amount of Resin into farming these artifacts.
Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City
2-Piece Set Bonus:
When a nearby party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, the equipping character regenerates 6 Elemental Energy.
4-Piece Set Bonus:
After the equipping character triggers a reaction related to their Elemental Type, all nearby party members gain a 12% Elemental DMG Bonus for the Elemental Types involved in the elemental reaction for 15s. If the equipping character is in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state when triggering this effect, all nearby party members gain an additional 28% Elemental DMG Bonus for the Elemental Types involved in the elemental reaction for 20s. The equipping character can trigger this effect while off-field, and the DMG bonus from Artifact Sets with the same name do not stack.
The Scroll artifact set’s 2pc effect can be utilized in 2pc mixed sets for characters whose primary purpose is casting their Bursts off cooldown. However, the condition to trigger the effect limits teambuilding, since triggering Nightsoul Burst requires at least one Natlan character in the team. Additionally, there are often more useful support artifact sets to use on these Burst-centric characters.
The 4pc effect is much more notable, as it potentially grants a massive teamwide buff of up to 40% Elemental DMG Bonus (12% + 28%). However, only Natlan characters in their Nightsoul’s Blessing state can trigger the part of the 4pc effect that further increases the Elemental DMG Bonus by 28%, limiting the effectiveness of this set on non-Natlan holders. 4pc Scroll should generally be equipped by support characters to buff the team’s damage dealers to a greater extent.
Notes on Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City’s 4-Piece Set Bonus
- Multiple reactions triggered by the same user results in a DMG Bonus buff to all Elements involved.
- Off-field units can still trigger the effect.
- The 12% DMG Bonus and 28% DMG Bonus are counted individually. They can be triggered separately and have independent uptime.
- Each Element can only receive 1 instance of 12% DMG Bonus and 1 instance of 28% DMG Bonus.
- Reactions not related to the holder’s Element do not trigger the 4pc effect. For example, if an Anemo character with 4pc Scroll triggers a Pyro Swirl reaction that leads to a Vaporize reaction on the adjacent enemy, that Anemo character will only give Anemo and Pyro DMG Bonus to the team and not Hydro DMG Bonus.
- The duration of the buff can be refreshed, both on-field and off-field.
- Reactions on most non-enemy entities cannot trigger the 4pc effect. This includes but is not limited to environments (bodies of water, grass, etc.), certain objects (Regisvine Cores, Electro Crystals, etc.), Elemental Infusion, and reactions on characters.
- Shatter does not trigger the effect.
- Hyperbloom and Burgeon give Dendro and Electro / Pyro DMG Bonus, respectively.
- Quicken and Aggravate give Dendro and Electro DMG Bonus, while Spread only gives Dendro DMG Bonus.
- It is inconsistent to trigger the set effect with Burning, as reapplying Dendro or Pyro on a Burning enemy does not guarantee a “reaction.”
Which Characters Can Use Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City?
At the time of writing, Kachina is the only support character who can trigger the full effect of the set. However, other non-Natlan support characters can still find the set useful for their teams in many scenarios. Nonetheless, the set remains promising and will likely have its value increased with the introduction of more Natlan units.
Viable 2pc Set Users
Support Units With High Burst costs in Teams With Natlan Characters | The 2pc set of Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City can be useful for mixed sets on characters who value meeting their ER requirements above everything else, such as Xiangling, Thoma, and Mona in Mualani’s teams. |
Best 4pc Set Users
Kachina | Kachina can proc the full effect of the set just by using her Skill, provided there is an aura of the desired Element present for her Twirly Turbo to trigger Crystallize. The ability to give the entire team a 40% DMG Bonus for Geo and the Crystallized Element with long uptime makes her noteworthy for many teams. |
Viable Non-Natlan 4pc Set Users
Zhongli | 4pc Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City is overall a flexible set for Zhongli. Its long uptime and simple trigger condition makes it a more consistent buffing set than 4pc Tenacity of the Millelith (TotM), 4pc Archaic Petra (AP), and 4pc Instructor. It can also provide Geo DMG Bonus, which is valuable for Geo DPS characters. Generally, 4pc Scroll grants a similar buff to 4pc TotM without the inconsistency of his Stele in proccing the 4pc TotM effect. 4pc Scroll, despite being weaker in buffing capability, has much better uptime compared to 4pc AP or 4pc Instructor, making it a very competent alternative to those. |
Gorou, Geo Traveler, Ningguang, Yun Jin (In Geo Teams) | Similarly to Zhongli, when used as a buffer for Geo damage dealers such as Navia, Itto, Noelle, and Chiori, these characters can use Scroll of the Hero to give an additional buff with long uptime and an easy trigger condition. The buff also benefits characters whose Element is involved in the Crystallize reaction. The set only works if the holder can trigger a Crystallize reaction, so unless you are fighting against an enemy with an innate aura, bringing a team with four Geo units renders the set useless. |
Faruzan, Xianyun, Jean, Sayu, Sucrose, Lynette, Anemo Traveler (In Anemo Teams) | These units can use the 4pc Scroll set to bolster the team’s Anemo Hypercarry, e.g., Xiao or Wanderer. For pre-C6 Faruzan, 4pc Scroll is a buffing set that can replace 4pc Noblesse Oblige (NO), which is usually already equipped by another team member. For C6 Faruzan, the set performs similarly to 4pc TotM. On Xianyun, Jean and Sayu, the 12% Anemo DMG Bonus is similar to the buff that 4pc Song of Days Past (SoDP) provides in single-target, while being better in multi-target scenarios. Overall, this is a better set to farm besides NO and Ocean-Hued Clam for general use. Scroll of the Hero is Sucrose’s Best-in-Slot artifact set as an Anemo battery for Xiao. Lynette and Anemo Traveler generally see it as their best set to buff the Anemo DPS as well. Like the situation with Geo teams, Anemo teams with no Pyro / Hydro / Electro / Cryo unit cannot make use of the set effect. |
Support Units in Teams With HP-Scaling Hypercarries | Since the number of artifact sets that benefit HP-scaling teammates is limited, a 12% DMG Bonus, though modest, is a welcome boost. Notable users of 4pc Scroll in some hypercarry teams: |
Support Units in Teams With ATK-Scaling DPS Units | On the other hand, teammates of DPS characters that scale with ATK have access to more buffing sets, such as NO or TotM. This makes the contest between support artifact sets more competitive. Still, 4pc Scroll remains viable. Examples of potential 4pc Scroll users in teams with ATK-scaling teammates: Scroll of the Hero performs quite similarly to 4pc NO and 4pc TotM but loses to 4pc Instructor for most characters. However, players may have an easier time building their characters with 4pc Scroll compared to Instructor, because of its availability in a farmable domain and its 5-star attributes. On top of that, 4pc Scroll also has a longer buff duration and can be refreshed off-field, mildly increasing the set’s value. |
Support Units in Quicken Teams | 4pc Scroll is an alternative to Instructor for support characters in Quicken teams. Shinobu, Lisa, Yaoyao, Kirara, Baizhu and even Nahida are good Scroll users and can easily maintain full uptime on the buff for their teams. It is most notable for Yaoyao as an Instructor replacement, since she does not have to stay on-field to trigger a reaction to enable the set. |
Support Units in Teams With DPS Units who Have Varied Stat Scalings | Scroll has the edge over other support sets such as NO or TotM when it can buff teammates with different stat scaling, e.g., one ATK-scaling character and one HP-scaling character, at the same time. Here are some teams / cores that make the most out of the buff provided from Scroll of the Hero: |
Not Recommended
Anemo and Geo supports in Quickswap Mono Element teams | In Mono Pyro / Hydro / Electro / Cryo teams, 4pc VV and 4pc AP are more effective on these units than 4pc Scroll, and the sets’ short uptime is not an issue here either. |
Obsidian Codex
2-Piece Set Bonus:
While the equipping character is in Nightsoul’s Blessing and is on the field, their DMG dealt is increased by 15%.
4-Piece Set Bonus:
After the equipping character consumes 1 Nightsoul point while on the field, CRIT Rate increases by 40% for 6s. This effect can trigger once every second.
The 2pc effect of Obsidian Codex provides a straightforward 15% DMG Bonus, while the 4pc further gives 40% CRIT Rate to the set user if they consume 1 Nightsoul point while on-field. This totals to a universally good buff volume for on-field DPS characters from Natlan, as they can easily trigger and maintain the set effects from both the 2pc and 4pc.
Which Characters Can Use Obsidian Codex?
Obsidian Codex is limited to Natlan characters only, as both its 2pc and 4pc effects need the holder to be in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state to trigger. Currently, there are only Mualani and Kinich as the main users of this artifact set. However, Obsidian Codex’s set bonus is so massive that it will likely become the Best-in-Slot (BiS) for many on-field Natlan DPS characters soon to be released.
Best 4pc Set Users
Mualani | Mualani’s BiS artifact set. Mualani’s Sharky’s Bites can have full uptime on the set’s buffs. However, her Burst’s Super Shark Missile may not benefit from the 2pc effect if she uses it at the end of her field time. |
Kinich | Kinich’s BiS artifact set. Note that his few first Loop Shots don’t have their CRIT Rate increased by the 4pc Obsidian Codex set effect as Kinich only consumes Nightsoul points right before the first Scalespiker Cannon; this Cannon instance still benefits from the 4pc effect. |
Viable 2pc Set Users
On-Field Natlan DPS Units | 2pc Obsidian can be a stepping stone for Mualani and Kinich before players get to have a 4pc build. |
Niche 4pc Set Users
Kachina | 4pc Obsidian is the best set for Kachina if she wants to maximize her (on-field) Mounted Turbo Twirly damage. |
New Artifact Definition and Extraction Function Overview
Version 5.0 introduced the Artifact Transmuter, a gadget that provides two artifact-related functions — extraction and definition.
Artifact Definition consumes a material called Sanctifying Elixir, also introduced in Version 5.0. Using these Elixirs, players can obtain an artifact with a predetermined set, type, main stat, and up to two substats. Elixirs are consumed at the following rates, based on type (the other properties have no effect on Elixir consumption):
Type
Flower of Life
Plume of Death
Sands of Eon
Goblet of Eonothem
Circlet of Logos
Elixirs Consumed
1
1
2
4
3
It is important to note that only one artifact of each set can be defined per patch. Because of this, it’s advisable to prioritize defining Goblets over the other pieces, as it is harder to come by those pieces with good substats. In rare cases, players may also consider defining a Sands or Circlet. However, if looking for a Flower / Plume upgrade, it is usually a good idea to farm the Domain or use the Strongbox, as the fixed main stat of those pieces makes them drop with good substats far more often.
Sanctifying Elixirs can be obtained through:
- Natlan Exploration (including but not limited to the Tona Offering System)
- Purchasing the Gnostic Hymn tier of the Battle Pass
- Events like the 2024 Anniversary (which will provide an Elixir through in-game mail)
- Artifact Extraction
Artifact Extraction consumes 5-star artifacts of Level 4 or higher and converts them to progress towards a Sanctifying Elixir. You can extract 1 Sanctifying Elixir per patch, and progress obtained from each artifact extracted is calculated based on its level:
Artifact Level
4-11
12-15
16-19
20
Extraction Progress
Artifact Level
Artifact Level + 2
Artifact Level + 6
30
If only considering the number of 5-star artifacts used, using Lv. 19 or 20 artifacts — roughly four of them in total — would be the most efficient way to extract a Sanctifying Elixir. However, using Lv. 4 artifacts is most efficient in terms of Artifact EXP used. Since it is already common practice to level certain pieces to Lv. 4, usually in search for a good fourth substat, players should have a steady supply of Lv. 4 pieces, which can only be used for the Strongbox or experience at the cost of the other opportunity. Artifact Extraction can thus be seen as less wasteful than both, and thus it is advisable to use Lv. 4 artifacts in it as the best way to dispose of such pieces.
New Craftable Weapons Overview
Natlan’s craftable weapons provide various secondary stats and passives that benefit different types of characters. Weapon descriptions are stated on a range of R1–R5.
DISCLAIMER: The following suggestions are based on early analysis. Please wait for further calculations and testing before investing in billets and ore to craft or refine these weapons.
Flute of Ezpitzal (Sword)
Base ATK: 454
DEF: 69.0%
Using an Elemental Skill increases DEF by 16–32% for 15s.
Flute of Ezpitzal is a good free-to-play option for DEF-scaling Sword users, as DEF% is a rare stat to get from a Sword. This weapon synergizes well with the two current DEF-scaling Sword damage dealers, namely Albedo and Chiori.
Best Users
Albedo, Chiori | Flute of Ezpitzal performs similarly to Harbinger of Dawn for them without the condition of staying above 90% HP (so it works with Furina’s HP drain). Albedo and Chiori’s cooldowns are relatively short (4s and 16s, respectively), allowing them to keep a high uptime on the Sword’s passive. |
Earth Shaker (Claymore)
Base ATK: 565
ATK: 27.6%
After a party member triggers a Pyro-related reaction, the equipping character’s Elemental Skill DMG is increased by 24-48% for 8s. This effect can be triggered even when the triggering party member is not on the field.
Earth Shaker requires a Pyro reaction (Vaporize, Melt, Overloaded, Burning, Burgeon, Pyro Swirl, or Pyro Crystallize) to trigger its passive, so having at least one Pyro character in the team (who can be the weapon holder themself) is a must. The Claymore is best suited to characters who deal good Elemental Skill damage and scale with ATK.
Other craftable weapons such as Tidal Shadow or Prototype Archaic are still better ATK stat sticks if the equipping character does not have their Elemental Skill as a big portion of their damage.
Note that reapplying Dendro or Pyro onto enemies that are currently in the Burning state does not count as triggering a Burning reaction for this weapon passive’s activation. As such, keeping the uptime of Earth Shaker’s passive may be an issue in some Burning teams.
Best Users
Kinich | Earth Shaker is Kinich’s best “F2P” weapon and, at Refinement Rank 5, it can compete with R1 Serpent Spine for his best 4-star choice. Kinich greatly appreciates the ATK% secondary stat and the Elemental Skill DMG% provided by this Claymore’s passive. However, the passive is rather inconsistent when Kinich is paired with Emilie in a Burning team. |
Navia | For Navia, Earth Shaker is a good alternative to Tidal Shadow or Ultimate Overlord’s Mega Magic Sword. Earth Shaker pulls ahead of Tidal Shadow when Navia doesn’t get healed by Bennett because of no HP loss — because she’s fully protected by a shield or the team doesn’t include Furina —, and it performs better than the Mega Magic Sword when she has relatively low ER requirements. |
Diluc | As Diluc has good Skill damage, Earth Shaker is a viable option for him. |
Not Recommended
Freminet | Since Freminet is locked on-field during his Burst mode, he would want an off-field Pyro applier to maintain the weapon passive’s uptime. As none of the off-field Pyro units are popular in his teams, the weapon remains a suboptimal option for him. |
Dehya | As Dehya’s Skill damage is negligible in both her on-field Burst DPS and off-field support playstyles, players should instead use something that increases either her Burst or reaction damage or provides extra utility for the team. |
Gaming | Gaming’s Skill-enhanced Plunging Attack deals, indeed, Plunge damage. This means Earth Shaker’s passive is useless for him. |
Footprint of the Rainbow (Polearm)
Base ATK: 510
DEF: 51.7%
Using an Elemental Skill increases DEF by 16-32% for 15s.
Footprint of the Rainbow is a good stat stick weapon for Polearm users with DEF scaling, as DEF is a rare stat to get from external sources.
Best Users
Kachina | Footprint of the Rainbow is the go-to weapon to maximize Kachina’s personal damage. However, as Kachina tends to take a support role in her teams, using Favonius Lance to provide extra Energy in the form of Clear Particles is often better instead. |
Yun Jin | In teams where Yun Jin is allowed to run a low-ER build, Footprint of the Rainbow enhances Yun Jin’s buff greatly with its hefty DEF% buff. Favonius Lance is still a good weapon to meet the high ER requirements of her team or herself. |
Ring of Yaxche (Catalyst)
Base ATK: 510
HP: 41.3%
Using an Elemental Skill grants the Jade-Forged Crown effect: Every 1,000 Max HP will increase the Normal Attack DMG dealt by the equipping character by 0.6-1% for 10s. Normal Attack DMG can be increased this way by a maximum of 16-32%.
Ring of Yaxche is a strong weapon to increase the Normal Attack damage of HP-scaling Catalyst DPS characters, provided that they use an Elemental Skill not long before their Normal Attack field time. The passive incentivizes building more HP on the holder than usual, but CRIT and DMG% should still have a high stat priority regardless.
Best Users
Mualani | Ring of Yaxche is one of Mualani’s best 4-star weapon choices, buffing all her Shark Bite damage with a full uptime passive. |
Not Recommended
Kokomi | As Ring of Yaxche’s passive only lasts for 10s after casting an Elemental Skill, Kokomi can have a hard time adjusting her Skill use into the rotation to align with the weapon passive’s uptime. Otherwise, she will only have a fleeting passive uptime if she chooses to use her Skill and Burst and rotate through the team before getting back on-field to perform her Normal Attacks. As such, Prototype Amber or Flowing Purity are better options for her instead. |
Neuvillette | Neuvillette does not incorporate his Normal Attacks into his combo, thus rendering this weapon’s passive useless. |
Chain Breaker (Bow)
Base ATK: 565
ATK: 27.6%
For every party member from Natlan or who has a different Elemental Type from the equipping character, the equipping character gains 4.8-9.6% increased ATK. When there are no less than 3 of the aforementioned characters, the equipping character gains 24-48 Elemental Mastery.
Chain Breaker gives stats and incentivizes the equipping character to be in a team with Natlan characters or teammates of different Elemental Types from them. Note that the weapon does count its user for one instance of the ATK% buff if the equipping unit is from Natlan themself. With the currently released character roster, a Chain Breaker user can get a maximum of 28.8% ATK and 48 EM from the weapon’s passive (at R5). This makes Chain Breaker a very competitive generalist weapon among its 4-star competitors as a simple stat stick. It is not worth modifying your team just to gain more ATK% increase over other more important teambuilding considerations.
Best Users
Tartaglia | Chain Breaker is one of Childe’s best 4-star Bows and his best craftable option. In his most popular playstyle as Xiangling’s teammate, he can easily get 3 instances of ATK% increase in addition to the EM bonus. The weapon is tied with Viridescent Hunt for damage output, but Chain Breaker does not have the added grouping utility of the Battle Pass Bow. |
Fischl | A strong option on Solo Electro Fischl. Chain Breaker provides good ATK% buff and potentially some EM, which is useful in teams where she owns some reactions (Spread teams, Overloaded teams, and Electro-Charged teams). The weapon is generally her best craftable Bow, as it permanently gives her all the good stats without having to hit a weak point (Prototype Crescent) or having a healer in the team (Song of Stillness). |
Ganyu | A strong option on Solo Cryo Melt Ganyu. A good stat stick for Melt Ganyu and can be considered her go-to craftable Bow as it performs consistently across multiple scenarios, in contrast to Prototype Crescent (for which you need to hit a weak point) or Hamayumi (which loses buff volume when using Burst or Shimenawa’s Reminiscence). |
Aloy | A strong option on Solo Cryo Melt Aloy. Chain Breaker is an amazing craftable for Aloy with its straightforward buff that increases all her damage without being scenario-dependent like Prototype Crescent or Song of Stillness. |
New Event-Exclusive 4-Star Weapon Overview
Ash-Graven Drinking Horn (Catalyst)
Base ATK: 510
HP: 41.3%
When an attack hits an opponent, deal AoE DMG equal to 40-80% of Max HP at the target location. This effect can be triggered once every 15s.
Ash-Graven Drinking Horn gives an HP% secondary stat and a passive that deals a notable Physical damage instance based on the user’s Max HP every 15s. Thus, the Catalyst is best used on characters that benefit from building HP. However, the weapon faces stiff competition from Ring of Yaxche and Prototype Amber — two “F2P” options that also offer the same HP% secondary stat and useful passives.
The passive’s damage instance is Physical damage and thus does not benefit from the user’s Elemental DMG Bonus, but it is affected by their Common and Physical DMG Bonus.
Best Users
Barbara | Used to maximize Barbara’s Ocean-Hued Clam damage, especially in teams with Electro and Cryo characters. The HP% secondary stat increases her healing, which in turn increases Ocean-Hued Clam’s bubble damage. The Physical proc from the passive benefits from Physical RES Shred when the team can trigger Superconduct. |
Neuvillette, Kokomi | Ash-Graven Drinking Horn can be an alternative to Prototype Amber for Neuvillette and Kokomi. The weapon becomes more valuable if the user has low ER requirements. |
Niche Users
Baizhu | In general, Baizhu should not use Ash-Graven Drinking Horn over Prototype Amber as this weapon provides the same HP% secondary stat, but without the Energy generation. However, it can be used in niche circumstances where Baizhu has low ER requirements and wants to maximize his damage. |
Not Recommended
Mualani | Ash-Graven Drinking Horn works as an HP% stat stick if you don’t have any Catalyst billets to craft the Ring of Yaxche, but you can definitely do better than this. |

Mualani’s signature and Best-in-Slot weapon. The weapon grants the user a good amount of Normal Attack DMG% as long as they can maintain a good interval between each Vaporize reaction proc. Its high CRIT DMG secondary stat makes it a decent stat stick on almost any DPS Catalyst user, while the straightforward HP% buff from the passive gives an incentive for the user to be HP-scaling.
Best Users
Mualani | Surf’s Up is Mualani’s Best-in-Slot weapon and it gives (almost) all the stats she needs: CRIT DMG, HP%, Normal Attack DMG%. The conditions to maintain stacks on the passive were tailor-made to be perfectly on-point with her kit. |
Possible Users
Neuvillette | A good stat stick for Neuvillette. Surf’s Up has a high CRIT DMG secondary stat, and its passive gives HP%. |
Yanfei, Klee | As Yanfei and Klee can trigger Vaporize in some of their teams, Surf’s Up is a good option for them. However, it is not advisable to pull for Surf’s Up solely for this reason as Normal Attacks are not a big part of their damage even if they trigger Vaporize. Furthermore, Widsith is a more accessible option that can perform quite competitively. |
Other Catalyst Characters | Even without making use of the weapon’s HP% or Normal Attack DMG% buff, this weapon still has the highest CRIT DMG a Catalyst can provide, which is well-appreciated on many damage dealers. |

Kinich’s signature and Best-in-Slot weapon. Fang of the Mountain King is a niche weapon, as there are few Claymore users who can meet the triggering requirements (i.e., don’t mind being in a team with Burning or Burgeon) and utilize the Elemental Skill and Burst DMG% that well. The high Base ATK of 741 makes the weapon user scale better with ATK%.
Best Users
Kinich | Kinich’s Best-in-Slot weapon. Both his Loop Shots and Scalespiker Cannons can trigger the weapon passive, and Burning or Burgeon reactions (which are common in his teams) can help him build up the stacks faster. |
Niche Users
Chongyun | Recommended to use in Burning teams. Mountain King can provide Chongyun with a large amount of Elemental Burst DMG Bonus if he can stack its effect beforehand. |
Navia | Although Burning teams and Navia are not a common combination, this weapon is still a good option for her in such teams. |
